Artist bio
Layne Takahashi is a mixed media artist born in Tustin, California, and working in San Francisco. Layne attended CCA Precollege, received her BA from UC Davis in 2022, and was part of the Advanced Undergrad Studio program. She also attended the Royal Drawing School and the Dumfries House as an artist in residence this past fall. Currently, she is an artist in residence at the Midway in San Francisco, where she curated a group show, “An Accident, on Purpose.” She has exhibited at local galleries such as Wave Collective and the Drawing Room in San Francisco over the past two years. Layne has recently been accepted to the Kunstraum artist residency program in Brooklyn, NY, for Spring 2025.
Her work embodies duality, oscillating between intense, physical mark making and light, precise touches; fast and slow. It contrasts the commercial with the natural, reflecting on American culture and personal history. The artist contemplates her family's internment under Executive Order 9066 and the peculiarities of growing up in the internet age.
